The original version of my webcam used an X-10 Wireless camera going to a Mac Quadra 660 A/V running SiteCam Lite from NuSpectra. SiteCam worked great, but crashed on occaison, and the camera was poor quality (sample pic) and very susceptible to RF interference. Plus there was absolutely no picture is low light conditions.
The second version used the same Quadra 660 A/V but with a new Color / BW / IR camera found at All Electronics. This camera has a great quality picture in all lighting conditions including nighttime and finer resolution (sample pic). But because of hardware and software compatibility issues I couldn't get the captured picture to be larger than 370 x 290.
The latest incarnation uses the same camera, a composite video to FireWire converter from ADS Technologies, a 17" G3 iMac and EvoCam shareware from Evological (currently running in trial mode). A little overkill on the hardware, but it's all stuff I already had laying around. The FireWire video converter was originally purchased to convert analog video (from old video camera tapes) to FireWire DV for editing, but now does a fine job for the webcam. Now I can have a nice large 640 x 480 great quality picture! (day pic) (night pic)
Also, in case you're wondering, the camera pokes out of an attic vent and points roughly southwest.
